【摘要】:1.1ThisOutlineofInvestigationcoverssupplementaryrequirementsforcommunicationcircuitpacksandshelveswithremotefeedingtelecommunicationcircuitsintendedforbackwardscompatibilitywithframes,shelvesandbackplanes.1.2TheequipmentcoveredislimitedtothatwhichformspartofaTELECOMMUNICATIONNETWORKuptoandincludingtheDEMARCATIONPOINT.ThecircuitryassociatedwiththistypeofequipmentisintendedtobeinstalledandlocatedinSERVICEACCESSAREASonly,whichmayormaynotbeprovidedbytheequipmenthousing.ThisequipmentisgenerallyconsideredCentralOfficeEquipment,thoughitmaybedeployedelsewhereinsimilarlycontrolledenvironments.1.3ThisOutlinesupplementstheStandardforSafetyofInformationTechnologyEquipment,UL60950,ThirdEdition,becauseoftheneedforbackwardscompatibilityofnewequipmentwithequipmentalreadyinstalledintheexistingtelecommunicationsinfrastructure.Inparticular,spacingsassociatedwithconnectorsandsimilarinterfacesthatarepartoftheinstalledbaseareincompatibleUL60950,ThirdEdition,basedontheexistingworkingvoltages.Certaintypesofequipmenthaveprovidedvoltage-biasedcircuitryformanyyearswhicharedirectedwithintheTELECOMMUNICATIONNETWORK.ThesehighvoltagesareutilizedtopowersignalrepeatersandremoteterminalequipmentwhereACpowercannotberelieduponforoperationduetothetremendousdowntimepresentwithACutilityfunctionality.ThecircuitsarenotusedinCustomeraccessibleareaswhereaccidentalcontactwouldpresentapotentialhazard.Networkservicepersonnelareconsideredtobeawareoftheapparenthazardsassociatedwiththistypeofcircuitry.1.4Examplesofequipmentrequiringbackwardscompatibilityare:a)Circuitpacksorcardswithexistingornewtechnologiesdesignedtobeinstalledintoshelfassembliesthatformpartofaserviceprovider'sexistinginfrastructure;b)Shelfassembliesintendedasreplacementsforexistingshelfassembliesmountedinframeline-upsthatformpartofaserviceprovider'sexistinginfrastructure;andc)Shelfassembliesorenclosuresintendedasreplacementsforexistingserviceproviderinfrastructureequipmentthatarerequiredtobecompatiblewithcardsorcircuitpacksalreadyinservice.
